We are seeking an Electrical Engineer for our client’s Power Delivery Substation group with the following skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- Possess an understanding of high voltage transmission substation outdoor equipment, as well as being willing to learn the Client’s standards and practices.
- Ability to identify, analyze, and solve technical problems related to substation design.
- Ability to work independently with direction, while not hesitating to ask questions when needed.
- Possess aptitude for developing a strong working relationship with Senior Management, Program Manager, Project Manager, Group Leads, and design staff.
- Possess aptitude for developing a strong working relationship with the Client.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess willingness to develop, promote, and comply with company's quality requirements.
- Possess willingness to develop, promote, and comply with company's safety requirements.
- Possess working knowledge of computers and software such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and software used for specific technical applications within the group.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or related, from an ABET accredited college or university is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in 69kV to 500kV substation physical design is required.
- Experience in generation plant switchyard P&C design is also desirable.
- EIT is preferred.
- Professional Registration is desirable.
- Work under the direction of the Physical Group Lead.
- Work with a team to complete substation physical design projects to meet client standards and practices.
- Maintain good quality and efficiency while developing deliverables such as: General Arrangements, Equipment Plans, Elevations, Sections, Control House Layouts, Grounding analysis/design, Switchgear design, Conduit and Cable design, Creation of Bills of Material, etc., utilizing AutoCAD.
- Foster strong customer relationships through communications and support.
- Estimate and assist in the preparation of bid packages.
- Attend scoping meetings as requested for projects.
- Complete assignments within budget and schedule with a high degree of accuracy to provide quality deliverables.
- Mentor other designers/engineers in group to increase knowledge of physical substation design.
- Check/review other personnel work for accuracy and adherence to client/national standards.
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering principles and practices relevant to the project requirements. Share updates with team and leads to continually improve communications and quality.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the team and advocate the incorporation of safe work practices into all activities.
- Work with the Physical Group Lead and Program Manager to identify potential areas of engineering process and/or procedure improvements.
