JOB DESCRIPTION
The Sr. Transmission Line Engineer is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs and supporting documentation such as calculations. Coordinates, prepares and checks calculations, specifications, reports, design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas. Helps supervise, schedule and check work of project team members as required. Interfaces with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects as required. Responsible for adhering to project scope, schedule and budget on all assigned projects. May occasionally supervise and schedule work of other team members. Performs other duties assigned by Principal Engineers or Engineering Manager. Registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable for this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works under the direction of Principal Engineers and Engineering Managers.
- As a fully competent Engineer, independently evaluates, selects and applies engineering principles and practices relevant to the project requirements.
- Works with the Engineering Manager and Project Manager to define project objectives, prepare design estimates, and define project requirements and design approaches for large or complex projects.
- Capable of acting as Lead Engineer on single discipline projects or smaller multi-discipline projects, responsible for determining design approach and working with design team to prepare required design documents (e.g., drawings, specifications, calculations, etc.).
- Responsible for conceptualizing the initial design approach for a major phase of a large project or have overall responsibility for the engineering work on a routine project.
- Exercises judgment in the independent evaluation selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Capable of preparing and verifying calculations using engineering formulas and skills or application specific software as required.
- Manages personal task assignments, and for designated projects manages assignments of other design team members to ensure adherence to scope, schedule and budget.
- Must be capable of directing project design teams comprised of engineers, designers and technicians on a single project.
- Monitors project execution milestones and schedules to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
- Performs technical and coordination checking/ review of deliverables and other project documents. Ensures deliverables comply with Business Unit procedures and meet applicable design requirements.
- Follows up on construction issues with design staff to resolve problems and concerns in a timely manner.
- Supervision of less experienced engineers or technical support personnel is exercised on an assignment basis and is not an on-going substantial component at this level.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience.
- Experience in transmission line design.
- Proficient in the use of PLS-CADD & PLS-Pole.
- Proficient in interpretation of NESC Code and Client Design Requirements.
- PE is a plus.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.
